Even if the next version lands on schedule, Office 2024 will still have two years of security updates left when it does. Genuine Microsoft licence, one-time purchase, instant digital delivery.
Has Microsoft Announced Office 2027?
No. The only forward-looking statement Microsoft has made sits in its Office 2024 and Office LTSC 2024 FAQ, which commits to “another release of the on-premises version of Office in the future, beyond this release.” There is no year, no name and no feature list attached to it.
“Office 2027” is the name people are searching for, not a product name Microsoft has used. Microsoft names each perpetual version after the year it ships. If the next release arrives in 2027, it will almost certainly be called Office 2027. If it slips into 2028, it will be Office 2028.
Whatever it is called, it will arrive in two forms, as the last two did. The consumer and small business editions (Office 2024 is sold as Office Home and Office Home & Business) are what most people buy. Office LTSC — Long-Term Servicing Channel — is the volume-licensed edition for organisations, including Standard and Professional Plus. The two launch within weeks of each other.
How Microsoft Announces a New Version of Office
The silence right now is normal. In both of the last two cycles, nothing official appeared until the year of release itself.
| Version | First announced | Commercial preview | Released |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office 2021 / LTSC 2021 | 18 February 2021 | April 2021 | September–October 2021 |
| Office 2024 / LTSC 2024 | March 2024 | 18 April 2024 | September–October 2024 |
| Next version (projected) | Early 2027 | Spring 2027 | Autumn 2027 |
Three things stand out. The formal announcement came six to eight months before release both times. It was followed within weeks by a commercial preview for businesses — not a public beta, and not something home users can join. And each announcement confirmed there would be another release after it, which is exactly where the Office 2024 FAQ leaves things today.
Office 2027 Release Date: Our Best Estimate
Autumn 2027. Office 2019, 2021 and 2024 each arrived three years after the one before, and all three shipped in September or October. We set out that full release history in our Office 2026 article, which also covers whether it is worth waiting or buying now.
There is a second clue in how Microsoft pairs Office with Windows. Office LTSC 2021 was timed to ship alongside Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, and when Microsoft announced the Office LTSC 2024 preview it said the new version would be supported in parallel with Windows 11 LTSC 2024. The Windows side tends to be signposted earlier: Microsoft confirmed Windows 11 LTSC in April 2023, well over a year before it shipped. A roadmap note about the next Windows LTSC release would be a strong hint about Office timing too.
If Microsoft follows its own pattern, an announcement should appear in the first half of 2027. If spring 2027 passes with no announcement and no preview, a 2027 release becomes much less likely and the next version is probably a 2028 product. This is an estimate based on precedent — Microsoft has not committed to any timetable.
How You Will Know It Is Real
When the next version is announced, it will leave a trail on Microsoft’s own sites. Any one of these is the real thing:
- A post on the Microsoft 365 blog or Microsoft Tech Community announcing the next Office LTSC. This is where both of the last two announcements appeared.
- A commercial preview with installation instructions on Microsoft Learn.
- A lifecycle page on Microsoft Learn giving start and end-of-support dates, like the existing Office LTSC 2024 page.
- A change to the Office 2024 FAQ, which currently promises another release without naming it.
Anything else — a feature list, a leaked screenshot, a price in pounds, a confident release date — is someone’s guess until one of those appears.
There is no Office 2027 to buy, pre-order or download. Any site offering an Office 2027 product key, ISO or “early access” installer is selling something that does not exist, and a download of a product that does not exist is a common route for malware. We will list the next version when Microsoft releases it, and not before.
What Office 2027 Is Likely to Include — and Leave Out
Microsoft built Office LTSC 2024 from features in earlier releases plus a subset of features already available in Microsoft 365 Apps. If the next version follows the same model, its new features are, in effect, already shipping to Microsoft 365 subscribers today. Which of them make the cut will not be known until the preview. That is why any detailed Office 2027 feature list published now is invention.
What can reasonably be said comes from what Microsoft has done consistently, and from decisions it has already announced:
Based on every recent release
- Windows and Mac versions
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote at the core
- A fixed feature set, with security and quality updates only after release
- Consumer editions plus an LTSC edition for organisations
- A five-year support window
Based on decisions already made
- Publisher — Microsoft retires it after October 2026, and it was already missing from Office 2024
- Teams bundled in — it became a separate download from Office 2024
- Copilot — Microsoft sells its AI features through Microsoft 365, and Office 2024 does not include them
- A free upgrade from Office 2024
If you still rely on Publisher, the next version will not change your position. Our guide to the Publisher retirement covers the options.
Will Office 2027 Run on Windows 10?
We would be surprised. Office LTSC 2024 was supported on Windows 10 at launch, but Windows 10 reached end of support on 14 October 2025. A version released around two years after that date is very unlikely to list Windows 10 as a supported platform. Microsoft has not confirmed system requirements, so treat this as an expectation rather than a fact.
If your PC is still on Windows 10, that is the more pressing upgrade either way. Windows 11 Pro is the natural step, and Office 2024 runs on it today.
How Long Would Office 2027 Be Supported?
Office LTSC 2021 and Office LTSC 2024 both received five years of support under Microsoft’s Fixed Lifecycle Policy. On that basis, a version released in autumn 2027 would be supported until around autumn 2032.
| Version | Released | Support ends |
|---|---|---|
| Office 2024 | Autumn 2024 | 9 October 2029 (confirmed) |
| Next version | Autumn 2027 (projected) | Around autumn 2032 (projected) |
The overlap is the practical point. Anyone on Office 2024 when the next version launches has two further years of security updates, so there is no reason to move in 2027. The real decision point for Office 2024 owners is 2029.
Will it cost more?
Probably, for business customers at least. Microsoft raised the price of Office LTSC by up to 10% when the 2021 version launched, and did the same again with Office LTSC 2024. Consumer pricing has been steadier. Nothing has been announced for the next version, but the direction of travel on Office pricing has only ever been upwards.
Office 2024 Now, or Wait for Office 2027?
Waiting only makes sense if you already have a supported version of Office that does what you need. If you are on Office 2016 or 2019, you have been without security updates since October 2025. Office 2021 loses support on 13 October 2026 — our Office 2021 end of support guide covers what that means. Waiting a year or more for an unannounced release means running unsupported software for all of that time.
If you do buy now, Office 2024 is the current perpetual version, and it will outlast the arrival of its successor by two years.

Frequently Asked Questions
Microsoft has not given a date. Based on the three-year gaps between Office 2019, 2021 and 2024, all of which shipped in September or October, autumn 2027 is the most likely window. In the last two cycles Microsoft announced the release six to eight months in advance, so an announcement would be expected in the first half of 2027.
No. Microsoft has confirmed there will be another on-premises release of Office after Office 2024, but it has not named it or given a year. “Office 2027” is the name the next version would take if it ships in 2027.
No. Office 2027 does not exist yet, so no genuine key, download or pre-order is available anywhere. Treat any site offering one as a scam or a malware risk. Office 2024 is the current perpetual version.
Microsoft has not said. Office 2024 does not include Copilot, and Microsoft sells its AI features as part of Microsoft 365 subscriptions, so it would be a significant change of approach for a perpetual version to include them.
System requirements have not been published. Windows 10 reached end of support on 14 October 2025, so a version released around 2027 is unlikely to support it. Windows 11 is the safe assumption.
Nothing suggests so. Perpetual Office licences are version-specific, and Microsoft has not announced any upgrade route. Office 2024 remains supported until 9 October 2029, two years beyond the expected release of its successor.
Pricing has not been announced. Microsoft raised Office LTSC prices by up to 10% when both the 2021 and 2024 versions launched, so a similar rise for business editions would be in line with recent history.
